We're happy to tell you that Apollo has a new furever home. Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.
Apollo was an owner surrender and had been loved all of his life. Apollo's person lived in Iqaluit where there is very limited to no veterinary. She put out a plea on a standard poodle group asking for help rehoming her best friend. So many people suggested she contact SPIN. I watched the comments. Everyone was so nice! Respectful and kind. Poodle people are the best.
So in flew Apollo. He had cut himself quite severely a week prior. The owner had done her best but without veterinary help... A new SPIN foster picked up Apollo at the airport and whisked him home. While a little unsure at first, his loving nature soon shone through. The next day, Brittany, his foster was able to take the surgery suit that he came in off of him and we were able to get a look at the wound. Yup. Let's get him into the emergency vet.
Our medical team scrambled and were able to get him seen. In Ottawa, this is no small feat. Just saying... Yeah SPIN medical team!!! The vets took a look and recommended we open and look for any debris that may have remained in the wound, cleaning it up and closing it with stitches. And Apollo was whisked into surgery. Apollo proved to be a staff favourite. Charming his vet who claimed she wasn't even a poodle person! Ah well. How could you not be charmed by this sweet dog.
When Apollo was ready for adoption, George and Tanya put in their application. They had recently lost their SPIN dog, Bijou. So sad... Here is their first update:
We have been so busy having fun with Apollo and taking pictures that we’ve neglected to thank you… He is an absolutely perfect dog… With Bijou I had forgotten how easy it is to have a good time playing without worrying about his prey drive ..or his jealousy of other dogs when he was with us. Apollo is a wonderful dog … who reminds me of the best of the past Spoos I had raised from pups… who were able to go absolutely anywhere with me with such ease. Tanya is walking with Apollo mornings and evenings when she’s working… and we all go on outings when she’s off. He loves riding in the car… taking in the sights and smells along the way. When Tanya is working, he and I hang out at home in the yard if it’s not raining. He loves doing zoomies, playing fetch, and tug of war… but tires and wants to cuddle. How perfect can a Spoo be? He’s eating extremely well and pooping to match. He loves to cuddle on the sofa between us when we’re watching movies. We are working on getting puzzles for him… (are there any you would recommend?) Thanks so much. He shows how much he’s been loved and cared for.
