Doc came into SPIN with another standard poodle, Kat, on Nov 1, 2023. Kat and Doc  were owner surrenders due to changed life circumstances. They were flown, yes flown, from Thunder Bay to Oshawa by this really great organization called Pilots4Paws. Dave Vallilee donated the whole trip! Oh my gosh!!! How great is that?!!!

From the Oshawa Airport, Kat and Doc were driven into the waiting arms of John Blackdog at BlackDog Pet Resort where they were ushered into their kennel for a good night's sleep. A few days later, Doc was driven to his foster home in Montreal.

Doc arrived at his foster home, a little mystified and lost. We knew he would be sorted as he was with one of SPIN’s more experienced fosters. Almost immediately, the foster pointed out a mass on Doc’s right shoulder. It didn’t appear to be a Lypoma and, since he will be put under anesthesia for his neuter, we elected to remove the mas and have it biopsied.  At the time of surgery, the vet actually found not one but two masses, both of which were removed and biopsied. The results came back clean.

And remember that bit about doc being a little lost? Well it turns out that Doc is one of those dogs that simply loves people. He leans into them and makes them feel good. His foster Mom does a lot of agility and sports with her Portuguese water dog, and if somebody is feeling down or stressed, they seek out Doc who will magically make them feel better. It’s quite a gift. And so when we received this message, SPIN really couldn’t say no.

Overall, Doc is an extremely sensitive dog that has become very close to me and my dog.  Decompression was so difficult for him I would be heartbroken for him to have to go through that again.  Especially since he is finally feeling safe and comfortable.  That is part of the reason why I would be interested in joining SPIN’s foster fail club.  Doc has a huge fan club rooting for his success around here.
