Gosh I don't know if we will be able to help this woman.
Ring Ring (no answer) Ring Ring -- "Hi Sharon. It's Paula." "Hey, Paula, I've just finished my shift at the Food Bank and had my phone off. What's up?" "Well...... Emergency Intake. Would you be able to drive 1 hour and pick up a puppy? The owner won't be home until 9:20 at night... Could you overnight the puppy and then we will transport to BlackDog in the morning?"
Now. I was fully expecting a big hesitation because this is a BIG ASK. A HUGE HONKING BIG ASK. You know what Sharon does? Without hesitation. "Well. Let me call my husband because he will look after Stormy (her current foster dog) while I'm gone the two hours." Off Sharon goes without one grumble. Picks up an unknown dog. Loads her into the car. Takes her home to meet their foster dog Stormy. Dave's got the puppy's crate and bed all set up. And all settle down for the evening. While Sharon is getting Fibi, Steve, SPIN's transport coordinator, put a shout out for transport from Waterdown to Bowmanville. Virginia put up her hand. Door to door. Five hours on the road, plus she gave the little one a bit of a glow up when she got to BlackDog Pet Resort. And a shout out to John at BlackDog Pet Resort in Bowmanville, because all I did was text him to say that SPIN had an emergency intake and he will be receiving her tomorrow. "Of course!," he says. We will all move over a little bit. Today John took Fibi to the vet for a medical exam and shots. Because our vet in Bowmanville, Carter's Veterinary, is awesome. Meet Fibi. Five months old and cute as can be. Welcome Fibi. We got you baby girl. SPIN's got you.
Here are Fibi's foster's first comments: She is such a stunning pup. Still a puppy (guard your slippers!!) But wow. As with most standard poodle, with consistent training (lots to learn but easily motivated and quick learner) and exercise (lots of exercise!) Fibi is just about the perfect dog. She is not at all reactive when unsure - which is refreshing. She checks in frequently for guidance.
