Galacia came into SPIN in May, as an underweight and malnourished former mill dog. Because there were no available foster homes closer to her location in the Maritimes, some wonderful SPIN volunteers collaborated to bring her to Ontario and BlackDog Pet Resort, where a lot of SPIN dogs start their journeys to the lives they deserve. One family, who had told themselves that they were going to take a break from fostering for a while to focus on some other things, stepped up. Something about her story and photos struck a chord with them, and today – more than 5 months later – she is making the final step in her long odyssey.Gala very quickly wormed her way into our hearts. Her affectionate and gentle nature gives no indication of what was likely not always a life that would make one feel the way she does about people. She remains anxious in some situations and her progress will continue, as her forever home is in another Toronto neighbourhood, similar to ours.The transformation in her has been remarkable. This morning at the dog park a neighbour who hadn’t seen her for weeks actually thought she might be a new foster dog. That’s how much she changed in appearance, confidence and attitude. Her unadulterated joy in that space remains as inspiring now as it was when we first saw it a couple of months ago.As part of her adoption process, Gala had already spent a few hours at her new home with her forever mom and we could tell fairly quickly that she wouldn’t find anywhere else where she would be more loved and looked out for as she will there. The snuggles in each direction will be legendary.We feel fortunate to have been able to witness part of her growth and we can’t wait for updates on how she continues to blossom. - Adopt
