When Katey came into our care, she was suffering from a severe case of sebaceous adenitis. Her skin was exposed, scabby, and painful—but even then, she was nothing but gentle and sweet. With treatment, her skin has improved, her hair is starting to grow back, and her tail hasn’t stopped wagging since! Katey proved to be affectionate, polite, and easy-going. She’s great in the car, walks beautifully on leash, and is just as happy lounging by your side as she is playing outside. Her current treatment includes regular medicated baths and daily medication, but she handles it all like a champ.

Here is the first delighted correspondence we received from Katey's adopters: WE (Bill and I) are so thrilled to welcome Katey into our lives and become the new owners. Our lucky day was September 22 when SPIN volunteers worked together to expedite the adoption and save us another 10 hour round trip. Our Katey has fit in and made her home with us. We are excited and filled with joy each day as Katey shows all her talents and inserts herself into our hugs and hearts.

And here is their second message: So it's been about a month since Katey came into our lives. She is the sweetest, most remarkable addition to our household. She quickly settled in, learned our routines, and taught us hers. I think this story speaks to just how remarkable she is. Because of her skin condition, she requires frequent baths, clearly not the highlight of her new life with us, but she has come to accept the routine with a graceful resignation. Today was a bath day, which happens in the downstairs shower. I called her to the stairs, and she clearly knew what was about to transpire. I had to guide her to the top of the basement stairs, and she reluctantly acquiesced to go down the stairs ahead of me. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, however, she was nowhere to be found! I searched the house, and concluded she had gone into deep hiding somewhere in order to avoid the bath. Finally, I found her where I least suspected she would be... In the downstairs bathroom on the bath mat, waiting for me. What a remarkable dog!
