MORRISTON, ON

Lancelot, the 2.5-year-old standard poodle in Caledonia, is learning to enjoy life. The best will be with his adoptive family. Soon he hopes. Picture this: kids sneak into his crate, slam the door, and there’s Lancelot sitting outside, looking like he just won the dog lottery—tongue out and ready for a good laugh! It’s like he’s thinking, “Finally, some peace and quiet!”
This goofy poodle is on the hunt for his forever home where he can be adored (and maybe keep a close eye on those pesky kids). Some older kids to play ball or even train him some agility tricks. Sure, he needs a little training to handle other dogs and learn to be gentle with the littles, but he’s already house and crate trained. Just think of him as your loving guard dog... with a flair for comedy! Who wouldn’t want a poodle who’s part entertainer?

Foster Update, Nov 5:

Lancelot had been with us 2 full weeks. He continues to be calm and settled in the house, affectionate and biddable at all times. He tends to follow me around everywhere but when I am settled he then goes off to find out what my husband is up to if he is in a different part of the house. He does not like to be left alone. He gives an alert bark when someone comes to the door but does not carry on. He was good about Halloween watching from about 10 feet back while the trick or treaters came to the door. He barked at the first couple but then didn't bark again - just watched right by my side while my husband gave out treats.  There were fireworks for Diwali in our neighbourhood but Lancelot did not seem to be bothered at all by the bangs. Generally he seems more curious about new things rather than exhibiting fear or anxiety. He has not had any accidents in the house this week and we think the first week was just part of his transition. He lets me brush him, handle his ears and feet without any objection. He walks very well on a leash not pulling at all. We encountered a German Shephard on our morning walk today and I was able to keep him focused on me behind a parked car using the Up and Down Game. We have been working on the Up and Down Game as well as 1-2-3 and these are helping. His recall in the house is fast but outside much more casual.
