I'm ready for my new family!

Lilly

I'm Available

OTTAWA, ON

SPIN got a call from a vet about a standard poodle in crisis. They thought Lilly was in an Addison's crisis but tests were not confirmed yet. Could we help? Yes. Yes we could. Absolutely we could. At the time, it was touch and go. Lilly was very sick and struggling. But now at least she had a fighting chance.

The next morning, Lilly was doing better. Still not eating but electrolytes improved. The following day's report was even better. Lilly had eaten a little bit of wet food on her own. Her bloodwork was much improved. Kidney values were good. Electrolytes were much improved too. The Addison's test was confirmed as positive. Lilly improved through the day, so much so that she was released to her foster home that evening.

In her foster home, Lilly was somewhat confused. But she has rallied and has proven to be just a darling little dog. On her first test post Addison's diagnosis, Lilly was exactly where they wanted her.  Now let's hear a little from Lilly!

Hi! It's me, Lilly!. Now that I’ve had some time to settle into my foster home and adjust to my newly diagnosed medical condition, my friends think I’m ready to find my forever family and I'm definitely ready!

They tell me I have a disease called Addison's but that I can live a long and happy life, as long as I see a vet regularly and take my medication. Right now I take medication twice a day but I don’t even notice it because my foster mom hides it in my food. One of the medications needs to be kept in the fridge and the other is on the shelf. Thankfully I don't have to manage it on my own! I'll need blood work every once in a while just to make sure I'm always on the right dose of medication.

But that’s the boring stuff — honestly, I feel just fine! So, if you're okay with helping me manage my health, I’d love to tell you about the fun part: me!

I adore my people. I love to follow them around the house and be part of everything they do. Cuddling is one of my favourite things, and I’d really like to sleep right next to you at night. My foster mom says I might need to learn to sleep in a bed nearby instead, and I think I could get used to that. If you work from home, I would love that — I’ve been practising my therapy dog skills by keeping close while my foster mom works.

Right now, my foster parents go to work some days, but they usually come home at lunch to let me out for a bathroom break. That really helps. I might grow out of needing that extra break, but for now, it helps me stay comfortable — and accident-free!

I have a great foster sister, and I’d really love to have another confident dog in my new home. It helps me feel more secure, and I love to play! There are also cats here, and while I really want to be their friend, I can be a bit much for most of them. I don’t give up easily, even when they clearly let me know they don't appreciate me trying to play with them. So, if you have cats, they need to be very dog-savvy — or maybe it’s best I don’t live with any at all.

I’m still a young, mischievous pup learning the rules, but I try hard and love learning new things. My foster mom says I’d probably be great at dog sports like ratting, rally, or agility. I’m not sure what those are, but they sound exciting! I do know I love to run and play, and I’d be happiest with someone who takes me to places where I can stretch my legs and explore.

I can be vocal when I see people or dogs passing by — I just think you should know what’s going on outside! I might do best in a home where that kind of alert barking is okay, or where you’re willing to work with me on training.

If you’re looking for a loyal, smart, and snuggly pup who will love being by your side — and you’re ready to keep my body and brain busy — I think we could be a perfect match. I’m not a couch potato, but I am full of love and fun, and I’d really like to find someone who’s ready to share their life (and their snacks!) with me.

If that sounds like you, please reach out to my people here. I can’t wait to start our next adventure together.

Love,
Lilly
