Missy's Journey Home
When five-year-old Missy arrived in SPIN's care in April 2026 as an owner surrender, we knew we were welcoming a sweet little Standard Poodle, but we had no idea just how much personality could fit into one small package.
From the moment she arrived in foster care, Missy showed everyone exactly who she was: a loving, affectionate companion whose favourite place in the world was wherever her people happened to be. Within just a few days, she was settling in beautifully, making friends with the resident dogs and even initiating a bit of play with Percy. As she became more comfortable, Missy's true talent emerged—professional snuggling. Whether she was climbing directly into a lap, wrapping her paws around someone's shoulders, or positioning herself perfectly for enthusiastic face kisses, she made it clear that personal space was entirely overrated. Her foster family often joked that she made their own dogs look positively aloof by comparison.
While Missy was happiest curled up beside her foster humans, she slowly began revealing another side of herself. She developed an interest in toys, proudly claimed a rope toy brought over by a friend, and became fascinated by the wrestling matches between Percy and Jackson. Like any determined younger sister, she repeatedly tried to insert herself into the action, although the boys weren't always convinced she belonged in their exclusive club. Missy also discovered the joys of adventure and enrichment. She loved her walks, mastered the art of "tunnelling" between people's legs whenever she was excited, and proved she was just as content spending a rainy afternoon as a couch potato and partaking in a puzzle dinner.
As the weeks passed, the shy newcomer transformed into a confident, happy dog whose soft heart, loyal spirit, and just the right amount of sass won everyone over. She became the ultimate companion, following her people from room to room, always ready to offer kisses, cuddles, and unwavering devotion. Then came the moment every rescue dog deserves. Missy found her forever family. Adopted by a wonderful couple who immediately saw how special she was, Missy—now lovingly renamed Phoebe—began the next chapter of her life. Her new family understood her perfectly: her enormous capacity for love, her excitement about life's adventures, and even her tendency to have "big feelings" that sometimes resulted in jumping, barking, or wanting to be very, very close to her humans.
Just one week after adoption, it was clear that Phoebe had settled right in. Between all the cozy sleeping spots she had claimed, and the few hundred photos taken, there was no doubt she was already deeply loved. Whether she was sleeping soundly beside her people or enthusiastically embracing every new experience, Phoebe was exactly where she was meant to be. We are so grateful to her foster family, the volunteers who supported her journey, and most of all to her adopters for opening their hearts and home to this remarkable girl.
Congratulations, Phoebe. We wish you a lifetime of snuggles, and all the love you so very much deserve.
