Mozart

MONTREAL, QC

SPIN was contacted by Montreal SPCA that they had a lovely standard poodle who was just not doing very well in the kennel. He wanted to be with people! He cried and carried on when alone in the kennel but was just the sweetest dog! Could SPIN help?

SPIN had just brought on a foster family in Montreal who was very keen to help a foster dog. I warned the foster that Mozart will likely have separation anxiety and until he relaxes will not want to be left alone. Plus we had no idea what his leash skills were. He did generally pull towards dogs he wanted to see in the shelter and he barked as well. No matter, they said! We can always have someone home and we will take it so slow with leash training. Awwwww. Come on. How great. And so they went down to the Montreal SPCA and sprung the big guy. Apparently he was very nervous in the car, but was very grateful to be in a quiet home again. He just wanted to be reassured and loved up.
Here is the foster's first post. So great!!! It's been a week since we got Mozart, and let me tell you, he is so sweet! He came from the shelter quite anxious and kept demanding pets (like he literally rubs on you like a cat and puts his head in your arms for you to pet him). Over the span of a week, he got a new haircut, he has decompressed, made himself comfortable in his bed, learned how to wear boots, went to the vet for a checkup and even made a new friend, Yogurt! He walks great on a leash and although we haven't officially taught recall yet, he runs right back to you when you make kissy noises and call him. He has had absolutely no accidents (such a good boy!), and just wants to be around his human.
