Paisley is a 3 year old standard poodle (mix because she is merle). Paisley was released from a puppy mill. She has obviously had house time as she is clearly used to people and knows some things like sit, wait, shake a paw and such.
Paisley is now settled in her foster home in Clarington, ON. On her wellness check a lump was discovered on her back that was concerning and she has had a procedure to investigate what that lump is all about. It turned out to be benign and the vet feels it will not be a bother for her. She will be spayed in a month or so and will then be ready to accept adoption applications.
**UPDATE APRIL** Paisley was spayed at the beginning of April and did very well with her surgical procedure. She has fully recovered after a few weeks of resting comfortably on the couch and we are happy to announce that she is now ready for adoption! Hooray! What are some things we learned about Paisley this month? Paisley has very select dog friends...she's not really interested in playing much with other dogs and in fact, very much wants to be in charge. This may be because she was a breeding female and maybe has a bit of a "mom" complex...no offence to moms but I'm sure you know what I mean - no horse play in the house, behave on the hiking trail, mind your manners in public and such. We gave the dog park a trial run and Paisley did really well while we were off on our own but when we moved closer to a pack engaging in play, she tried to "mom" a dog twice her size so we had to go home and chat about 'momming' other people's dogs. She will likely do well as an only dog in her new home. Paisley is very people oriented but must be allowed to meet new friends on her terms. She wants a minute or two to suss things out before approaching to say hello. Once she has determined that someone is A-OK, she's very eager for pets and scritch-scratches. Having someone home a lot of the time would probably make her very happy! Paisley continues to like the Wobbly Toddlers as they are very respectful of her. She loves her couch time and has come to really enjoy heading down to the family room for movie nights.
**UPDATE MARCH** Paisley continues to really do very well in our home. There have been visitors over and after a few minutes of sussing things out from a wee distance, she approaches for attention with her tail wagging. She continues to be fine on pack walks but is always on a leash and walks near us while the other dogs run about - she doesn't seem to mind being on a lead. Paisley seems more "people" oriented than "dog" oriented and may actually do well as an only dog in the home. She would, however, really love it if someone was home most of the day to play and hang out with her. The wobbly toddlers are becoming some of her favourite people and she's always happy to see them. She's mastered the basement stairs and enjoys a good tv show....especially if it features any kind of dog!
**UPDATE FEBRUARY** Paisley has had the opportunity to explore her world and is doing really well! She's quite happy to watch the wobbly toddlers play and is most helpful with clean-up duty when they are around...food on the floor? She's got it! Food on their faces...she's got that too! (LOL) Paisley walks really well on a lead - no pulling - and is comfortable on busy streets or in the woods. She's been to the local pub for a visit and laid quietly while her foster mom visited with friends. She was curious about the people coming and going and was comfortable walking through the pub. She is a stoic, quiet, gentle girl...her playful side is starting to emerge and she occasionally asks for some silly playtime with her foster folk. Paisley is truly a wonderful dog!
