Discarded, dumped, obviously mistreated. That's all we knew about Rio and Patch when they came into SPIN. Their poor health indicated a belly full of parasites. Both had eye infections and needed eye drops twice daily for 7 days. Patch had a terrible skin infection. Rio had elevated liver enzymes. Both were scared and so so sweet. After a brief stay at BlackDog Pet Resort in Bowmanville, Patch and Rio were each placed in foster homes where they learned how to love and how to be loved. Oh my gosh they are such lovely dogs. So Rio went to first time fosters, Dana and Brian. They weren't wholly unfamiliar with SPIN as Dana's brother had fostered for SPIN before and is currently fostering Ronnie. Dana and Brian wanted to foster as they had just lost their much-loved Louis. They wanted to give back in Louis' name, but weren't ready to adopt. And in came Rio who had never lived in a house before. Stairs were a mystery. House manners had to be learned. Leash walking turned out to be a lot of fun. Slowly Dana and Brian fell totally and absolutely in love with Rio. When Crispin came into SPIN, Dana and Brian put up their hands for him. "Really," I asked? "Two foster dogs?" "Well," said Dana. "I wanted to prove that we are absolutely going to continue to foster. We very much want to adopt Rio." And how can we say no to that. Congratulations Rio. You are home. You lucky dog, you.
