I'm not quite ready to go to my new home.

River

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

OTTAWA, ON

River is a sweet, shy poodle who is learning about living life in the big city. He is not ready for adoption yet, but when he is, somebody is going to get a very nice poodle.

Foster Update: Dec 14

River has been in his new foster home for a week now.
After spending the first 2 days pacing, he found the living room couch where he spent all day and night, observing and sleeping for 4 days. The living room doesn't get any foot traffic so it wasn't a surprise that he chose this as his "safe" spot.
He left the spot to go outside for a pee and poo, then back onto the couch....until 2 days ago. Now he's trying out the dog beds in the family, where we hang out with our other dogs. His choice. No pressure or attention from us. If he approaches us to be petted, we pet him. Otherwise we ignore him. This is what they mean by just make their lives boring. After so many changes (leaving his previous home, flying from quebec city to bowmanville, staying at Blackdog resort for a month, going to a vet for the first time in his life, being neutered, then having a 5 hour drive in 3 different cars by strangers and landing in another house) he just needs to rest and do nothing. Calm down his brain so he can eventually think, observe and hopefully trust and feel comfortable and safe in his environment. Positive experiences and nothing forced.
He doesn't take treats from our hands, BUT I have gently placed treats in front of him while he's on the couch (when I need to check in on him) and walked away and he does eat them after I leave.
