When Vera and Donut were released from the doodle breeding farm, SPIN volunteer extraordinaire Rose Stewart went to pick them up. Donut was fostered out to another foster home in Ottawa, but Vera stayed with Rose. Vera proved to be  a lovely standard poodle with a heart of gold. She got along with all the dogs in Rose’s pack and if she wasn’t accepted she really didn’t take no for the final answer.

Rose watched in amazement as Vera tried many times to get Judy the Border Terrier to like her. Judy is the queen of their pack and one must be vey special to play with her! Vera tried several times a day standing near her, wagging her tail. Vera’s efforts paid off as a crack formed in Judy’s stern facade.

I loved this post from Rose:

“SPIN’s Vera is a real sweet heart! Today she and SPIN’s Valen went for a walk along the dirt road. She didn’t mind the vehicles going buy at all. And it was a busy day on our road, 6 vehicles went by! She never pulled and seemed to enjoy looking all around. Then the mail lady came by and had to stop and Ohh and Awe over how beautiful she was, what beautiful eyes she has and what a beautiful gold colour her hair is. Vera did seem to like all the flattering. SPINS Valen had enough of that kind of talk and made it clear we should be moving on. Really he was the perfect gentlemen.”

Vera clearly loved  to be with her people, and although she was still somewhat uncomfortable about being touched  she was is a kind gentle dog wanting to be loved. The perfect person applied for Vera and we couldn’t imagine a better home. Here is her first post:

“Vera walked in the Deep River Pride Parade today! She was very calm and happy considering the crowd. She’s sporting her rainbow bracelet because she knows that love always wins.”

Yes indeed, Vera. Love always wins.
