Some dogs come into rescue quietly… and leave the same way, having changed everyone along the way. Vito’s journey began with heartbreak. An owner surrender due to changing life circumstances, and as always, our hearts go out to the family who had to make that incredibly difficult decision. Loving a dog sometimes means letting them go...

From the moment Vito arrived in Edmonton, we knew he was special. Sweet, gentle, and social, he greeted the world with kindness—loving all people and creatures he met. Even while managing Addison’s disease, he showed us nothing but resilience and trust.
In foster care, Vito settled in effortlessly. A calm, collected, cuddly “cool dude,” he embraced his new life with quiet confidence. From a 3.5-hour car ride to meeting dogs, cats, and new friends, he handled it all with ease. He patiently stood for grooming, accepted his shots without complaint, showed up in the kitchen every morning for pill time, politely greeted everyone on walks, and quickly showed us what a truly good boy he is.

And then came the little moments that told us even more about who Vito is… Learning to climb stairs into the car (no small feat for an 80lb guy!), splashing happily in the water, enjoying trail rides alongside horses, and heading off on camping adventures—always just happy to be included.
Vito didn’t need to become anything different to find his home—he just needed someone to see the incredible dog he already was.

And this week… they did. Vito has been adopted.
Now, this gentle giant is right where he belongs—starting his next chapter filled with love, adventure, and companionship. Thank you to his foster family, his original family, and everyone who supported him along the way. It takes a community to give dogs like Vito the fresh start they deserve.

Every rescue dog has a story. And every adoption is a beautiful new beginning.
